Autism and me

Posted by Feral Beast in , , , ,

It's me again, and I'm going to tell you one of the reasons why I'm home schooled.biggrin

It all started when I was 2years of age, when I was said to have autism and Tourette's. I didn't know how to speak, when other baby's of my age were starting to speak. Then it all welled up when I turned 5 years old at the beginning of school when I thought every one there was my friend, then when I came home I had bottled up my stress because I had been in a different place for the first time, and there was a big crowd and as each day went by it got worse and worse because that same crowd got bigger and bigger until I stayed down in prep, where I was learning the same stuff, but the Teachers were saying that this and that was not true even though I had learned stuff from National Geographic and Discovery and History channels.mad

Now, when I went into grade 2 things started going down hill from there coz the teachers kept on saying that most of the time the things I talked about was just rubbish, but I know that you're not like that Mr V. cry

Now, when I was in grade 4 last year I stated home schooling because I could not cope in normal school even though I had an intergration aide but she was always away helping the other kids and I was not allowed to ask questions and I was put on a table all by my self in a corner which they called socialising, and they did not tell my Mum and Dad and I was punished for not getting the questions at all and not finishing the work I didn't understand.
And I was coming home all angry and tense and frustrated because I had bottled it up at school and no one was listening to me except Mum and Dad. Most of the time I smashed up the house and hit my Dad a lot because I was so angry at being teased by other kids and not heard by the teachers. My Tourette's makes me make strange noises when I'm really, really, really stressed and nervous and my noises (that are called vocal tics) were getting worse. I do other strange things but my doctor gave me medication to help me relax which worked a little bit.

So thats why I'm home schooled, plus I get to do fun things like the World Maths Day and reading challenge.mrgreen And it's much quieter and calmer and I feel happier inside.

I've competed against other people all over the world in practice matches for World Maths Day, that is tomorrow, and its great fun.
And I'm up to 60 books on my completed reading list for the Victorian Premiers Reading Challenge and that is great fun too!mrgreen

I saw an interesting documentary about a group of kids with Tourette's taking a trip to the Tourette's Institute somewhere in Europe...can't remember where it was. Somewhere dull looking, whatever the case.
When they arrived, the bloke in charge sat them down and gave them a lecture that was so incredibly boring the whole of hell broke loose.
It was excellent!
As somebody who suffers from an rare form of epilepsy myself, I know all about tics and twitches and stuff...and I hate crowds!
However, when I look at most normal people I can't help thinking, "Thank goodness I'm not like them."
I reckon you're lucky to have all of these wonderful problems, Mr. Beast. I just wish more people could have them.

Good luck with the World Maths Day! And 60 books!!!!! WOW!! That is heaps!

Thank you so much for sharing your story, it was sad (and made me a little angry about the teachers and the kids) but it has such a happy ending.

I love stories that make me smile in the end.

You write well for your age. I always thought home schooling, if done well, can work. Keep writing. It is an enjoyable read.

Thanks every body!I'm good at being
a host, don't you think?

Yes Brian, if only the normal people had the things we have.
Some times I think that people that don't have those things that we have are aliens.

Thanks Mr V,I wish your students the best! Thanks LID, I am having great fun with these challenges that I am doing, 60 books is
nothing, last year I read over 200 books!
