Hello.
I'm going to talk about the Ned Kelly's trial under the new anti-terrorist laws.
When Ned was caught by the police, he was trying not to end up as Ben Hall did.
He was Australia's Robin Hood, instead of robbing from the rich and keeping the money for himself, he would give the money to the poor.
I'll start with the begging of his story.
At the age of 14 he was put in a lock up for 10 days for a crime that didn't stick.
He'd been in a fight with someone and he had punched that person in self-defense.
At that time the police were corrupt, 'coz there wasn't really much crime in the colony, and so if there isn't much crime, then the police aren't going to get much money, now are they?
So after awhile of this sort of thing going on, he thought, " you want me to do some crime, then I will'' and so he did, but he was being a Robin Hood person.
After awhile the police started hunting him down like a dog.
One day he and his brother Dan went to confront the police when they heard some guns going off, so they went to where the police were camped, and they said, " surrender" and one of them did, but the other one ran into the scrub and pointed a gun at him, but Ned shot him so he wouldn't shoot Ned, while Dan was looking for the other one.
Two other policemen at a near by river heard the gun shots and ran to the camp and tried to take a few pot-shots at him, but Ned killed him in self defense.
The other one was hurt very, very badly and Ned had to put him out of his pain 'coz they were miles away from help.
Ned was then caught a few days later.
Now back to the trial.
The "mock lawyer" ( the lawyers and the judge were real ) said all of this to the jury who were taking it into consideration and once they had talked about it in the other room, they said he would be not guilty under the anti-terrorist laws.
Dad and I were siting in the first row, there were TV cameras everywhere we looked.
There was also a judge, a defendant, and the jury was hand picked out of the audience.
Dad and I came in too early, so we had to wait in a giant waiting room.
It was fun, I had a great time.
Kelly's siege site found.
Old bit's of bullets and pieces of metal were found in the place Ned was captured.
Ned was hurt badly and was caught at the Glenrowan Inn on the 28 of June 1880, when he had threatened to kill 60 people that lived in the area.
The famous Heritage Victoria has sent 6 archaeologists, 1 conservator and 40 students to look for anything there that is still there.
The gun fight was between Ned Kelly and some police officers.
Up to 15,000 rounds was fired at the time of the siege.
If you want to find out more about it, then just click here and the archaeology dig here.
NED IS FINALLY FOUND!!! It's been two years and we've Finally found him!!!![]()
Ned's last resting place has been found. Ned Kelly's body was in a mass grave at Pentridge prison site in Victoria. For 80 years he's been missing and now we've found him. The grave site of Australia's most famous bushranger was discovered after archaeologists unearthed a Department of Justice document which had a clue to where he was buried.![]()
Archaeologists from Heritage Victoria during the last week finally found the mass grave where he was buried. They have also found other executed prisoners in the same pit; removed from the old Melbourne prison in 1929 they were then buried in the Pentridge prison complex.![]()
Bones from the mass grave, thought to be from five different prisoners, have been sent to the Victorian Insitute of Forensic Medicine at Southbank.
We need to take greater care of our history, even though we are a young country we still have to protect all of our history or we will lose it forever, because a lot of our history has been lost that way and if we do lose it we'll never get it back, and if we don't get it back then the next generation of people will never know what it was like in that time.![]()
That's why we need to protect our history forever or else, say, great, great great, great, great, great grandchildren may never know who Ned Kelly was, who Henry Lawson was, Banjo Paterson was, who Daisy Bates was, what the rainbow snake was, etc, the point is that if we don't protect and collect things today we wont have them tomorrow.![]()
